Special Service & Police Pursuit Chevrolet Tahoe

(South Carolina Highway Patrol Chevrolet Tahoe)

(Michigan State Police 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe)

1997-1999:

Chevrolet introduced a prototype Police Package Tahoe in 1997, and began offering them for 1998. The Tahoe was powered by a 255hp 5.7L V-8 and sat an inch lower than the regular Tahoes. The Chevrolet Tahoe was the only SUV actually rated and offered as a true Police Package vehicle capable of pursuits. It had a top speed of 123 MPH and was only available as a 2WD.

In 1999, Chevrolet offered a 4WD Tahoe labeled as a Special Service Tahoe. It was not as fast as the 2WD Tahoe and was not intended for pursuit use.

2000-2006:

An all new Tahoe was released in 2000, but there were no Police Package or Special Service packages available that year. Chevrolet offered the Special Service Tahoes in 2WD and 4WD from 2002-2004.  Chevrolet re-introduced the Police Package Tahoe in 2005 referring to it as the Tahoe PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle). From 2005 on, the Special Service Tahoe was only available in 4WD.

2007-2012:

The Tahoe got a new look for 2007, and the PPV and Special Service packages continued up through 2012. For the first time in 2012, the Tahoe PPV will be available in 4WD.
